While blogging is not necessarily the hardest activity in the world, it does require something that's pretty much specific to living beings in general and human beings in particular: imagination and creativity. However, it would seem that the engineers from Bandai believe that things are rather different, since they've launched a little robot that's actually capable of writing its own blog posts and publishing them online.
According to a post on the
Bouncing Red Ball blog (by a human, though), the NetTansorWeb, an improved version of the
NetTansor from Bandai (which we've presented in an article way back in 2006, if you remember) is actually able to connect to the internet via a built-in Wi-Fi module, and it even sports a webcam installed on its head, which can be used for taking snapshots and then posting them on its own personal blog.
Additionally, it seems that the NetTansor Web can also be controlled remotely, for example when transmitting a live video feed. It's also capable of reading users' comments on its blogs and then act accordingly (either by answering them or carrying out various activities, upon request), and even send a photo directly to a mobile phone. Plus, it can even read RSS feeds, probably in order to keep itself updated on everything that's going on in the world.
Although you might be tempted to think that the NetTansorWeb packs quite a lot of processing power, the truth of the matter is that all the processing is done by a special software application, installed onto a Wi-Fi connected PC, the robot being merely an "extension" of the program.
Of course, it's not very likely that a machine, no matter how advanced, will actually be able to mimic the human mind anytime soon, but given the advancements in AI development, who knows what the future has in store for us?
