Microsoft’s outgoing CEO Steve Ballmer said during the company’s meeting with financial analysts that Redmond is ready to focus much more on the Windows brand and thus bring product updates that could help boost its market share.

Ballmer told the audience that the Windows product range has grown a lot lately, so PCs, tablets, phones and all the other devices running the operating system must be constantly improved for a truly unique experience offered to users.

“We know that we have got to do a great job. Windows 8.1 I think is a very distinct improvement, and we are going to have to put time and energy, not only into Windows PCs but into brand Windows overall. Our device brand more than anything is brand Windows: Windows Phones, Windows PCs, Windows tablets,” Ballmer said.

“And we have to make absolutely clear to people what the value proposition is and by the way how they can also get some of those same high-value services on non-Windows devices, on iPads, on iPhones, on Android devices, et cetera.”

Microsoft does seem prepared to continue investments in Windows products, so the next few months will bring a new version of the desktop OS, mobile phone improvements, fresh tablets, and several other updates across its product lineup.
