Microsoft officially released the Surface RT last month and although the device was sold out in just a few days, it appears that sales aren’t quite impressive after all.

Steve Ballmer said during the annual shareholder meeting that Surface RT is a bit too late in the tablet war, as Apple launched its first iPad more than two and a half years ago.

“We're innovating on the seam between software and hardware... Maybe we should have done that earlier,” he said in his speech.

The Surface product range will be expanded in January 2013 with a new tablet called Surface Pro that’ll feature Windows 8 Pro in order to run legacy Windows app.

The device will be offered in two different storage models, with 64 GB and 128 GB, respectively, with pricing to begin at $899 (€690).
