Even though Beamdog’s remakes of some of the most popular RPGs of all time haven’t been quite major improvements over the original versions when it comes to graphics, they deserve the outmost respect for bringing these games to the mobile world.

Obviously, we’re talking about Baldur’s Gate and Icewind Dale franchises, which are now available on both Android and iOS platforms as well.

On top of that, these very old games have been added new, never before seen content, such as quests, items, kits, and much more. Lots of bugs have been fixed and the new UI allows newcomers to the series to actually like the games.

The latest addition to Beamdog’s portfolio is the Android version of Baldur’s Gate II Enhanced Edition, which is now available for download via Google Play Store for only $9.99 (€7.99). That is a low price to pay for the hundreds of hours of fun (or torture) the game can offer, which makes it a must-buy for any RPG fan.

Along with the release of Baldur’s Gate II Enhanced Edition for Android, Beamdog also launched one of the most important patches since the game was released last year.

Patch 1.3 brings lots of changes that will make the enhanced version much better than the original. For example, the update should greatly improve pathfinding, so party members will now wait for each other to bypass obstacles, rather than immediately search for another route to destination.

A new companion and new quests have been added to the game

Some animations for various monsters in the game have been added, as well as the option to enable multiplayer banters through the .ini file of the game. Usually, NPS banters are disabled in multiplayer mode, but Beamdog found a way to make it possible.

Some updates to the equipment in the game and to NPCs’ behavior have also been implemented. There’s also improved character creation. You will now find a “pre-generate character” button in the Single Player menu, so you can create characters and export them without starting a new game.

Inventory management has been improved as well, so those who already own the game will notice that the Quick Loot bar now combines stackable items automatically when looted from the ground, and it correctly displays usability hints for items players find.

Beamdog has also confirmed that patch 1.3 adds a new monk companion (found in Trademeet), a new quest in Shadows of Amn, another one in Throne of Bhaal, and no less than 7 new locations to explore.

The full changelog of patch 1.3 is quite long, so make sure you check it out, and while at it, you might want to also read our Baldur’s Gate II Enhanced Edition review.
