Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition, a remake of the original game that was initially released back in 1998, has finally arrived on Linux.

Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition was remade by Beamdog and made available back in November 2012, with the promise that a Linux version would also be made. Now, almost two years later, the Linux port is finally working on Steam, although it's just a Beta version.

Users who started Steam today might have noticed that Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition is now available for download. The access was initially restricted, but now everybody can download and play it.

"Since its initial release in 1998, Baldur's Gate has entertained millions of fans around the globe and has received countless awards. This classic saga of mystery, intrigue, and adventure has set the standard for Dungeons & DragonsTM computer roleplaying games ever since," reads the Steam entry.

The system requirements for the Linux platform haven't been published just yet, but they can't be too far from the Windows ones. Users will need a 1 GHZ processor, 512 MB of RAM, an OpenGL 2.0-compatible video card, and 2.17 GB of HDD space.

The release date for a stable version hasn't been published just yet.
