On Wednesday, Anonymous hacktivists launched distributed denial-of-service attacks against a number of high-profile websites from Bahrain as part of the campaign dubbed OpBahrain.

The list of targets includes the websites of the Ministry of Interior, the Police Media Center, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, and Qorvis, a company which the hackers name the “PR firm to the dictator.”

Gulf Daily News was among the first publications to report that the Ministry of Interior’s website was “allegedly disrupted” by the attack. Hackers News Bulletin also reported that the sites went offline during the attacks.

Representatives of Bahrain’s Ministry of Interior deny that the site was “hacked.”

“Interior Ministry denies GDN report that its website was hacked yesterday and asks public to seek information from official sources,” the ministry stated on Twitter.

While it’s true that the site was not hacked, GDN’s report doesn’t say it was. I’m not sure if the Interior Ministry is actually denying the downtime, or if they want to clarify (in a lousy way) that their systems haven’t actually been breached.
