In September 2009, Megan Fox starred in what was meant to be one of the most innovative and inspired horror comedies of all times, the Diablo Cody-penned “Jennifer’s Body.” The movie got a lot of hype prior to release, but was rubbished shortly after it hit theaters by moviegoers and critics alike. The reason for that, Cody believes (as per ContactMusic), can be found in the bad marketing the film got.

As we also reported at the time, most of the interviews meant to promote the film focused little on the production itself and more on a certain scene that was included mid-movie and that saw the two female protagonists, played by Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried, share a non-platonic kiss. This is precisely what killed all odds “Jennifer’s Body” might have had of success because it virtually excluded female moviegoers from its target audience, Cody says.

“The marketing was a little messed up. It was marketed mostly to boys and I think we could have had a large female audience that was ignored. I want to believe deep down inside that movie will find its audience. At the same time, many of us knew that it wasn’t going to connect which is a terrible thing to say. As much as I love that movie, and I’m incredibly proud of that movie and I will love it forever, I feel it’s very unusual and I don’t think it’s super accessible in a lot of ways. I don’t think it was a typical, mass appeal popcorn horror movie. I think it was more like an art film. I know some people would laugh at that,” Cody explains in a recent interview.

However, things can still be turned around, the Oscar-winner screenwriter goes on to say. “Jennifer’s Body” is now out on DVD and reactions to it are already beginning to improve. “I have faith. I’m on Twitter and I get a lot of feedback from people all day. The DVD came out and I’ve heard from an avalanche of people saying ‘I didn’t think I would like this movie, and I’ve watched the DVD five times.’ Now I’m thinking, you missed it the first time around and you’re getting your opportunity to enjoy it,” Cody adds.

“Jennifer’s Body” tells the story of two high school friends who, against all odds, stick together through thick and thin. At one point, something happens that has Fox’s character possessed by a demon who feeds on the flesh of high school boys, otherwise its body decays. When the demon makes a move for the boyfriend of Amanda Seyfried’s character, it’s war between the two girls, one a demon and the other just a regular teenager with a massive crush.
