Everyone has dealt with bad breath. It’s hard to know what you’re doing wrong, whether it’s the way you brush, how often you maintain your oral hygiene, your physiology, or a combination of all these factors.

Since we’re not all doctors, we stand a good chance of screwing up overlooking some of these aspects. This is where Breathometer Mint comes in and (hopes) to save the day.

It needs backers on Indiegogo

Currently just an Indiegogo project, the Breathometer Mint is the successor to an alcohol level tracker – the Original Alcohol Breathometer – that succeeded in gaining traction two years ago. The creators are hoping to score similar success with their second brainchild, and are currently seeking backers.

The device is small and portable. You just pop it into your mouth and breathe into it for a few seconds. A specialized app on your iPhone then gives you readings based on which you can act. It also tracks your hydration levels. Hydration is directly linked to bad breath, the company says.

Everyone knows that bad breath is, well... bad. But what do the experts say about the repercussions? According to the product's description on Indiegogo, "an unhealthy mouth, especially if you have gum disease, may increase your risk of serious health problems such as heart attack, stroke, poorly controlled diabetes and preterm labor."

Mint app features

Most importantly, the Mint app can instantly give you a Breath Quality reading, which can make a world of difference if you’re about to go on a meeting, to an interview or, most importantly, on a date.

The app further lets users export activity data for sharing with medical professionals or personal trainers and packs a recommendation engine to assist in hydration and Breath quality goals. It also integrates with Apple’s HealthKit framework, and has a rewards program for consistently achieving optimal breath quality and hydration levels.
