Backyard Wrestling is a series of wrestling games aimed at young people, released for the Xbox and for the PlayStation 2 in 2003. It was developed by Paradox Development,
while the publishers of the series are Eidos.
Backyard Wrestling is also a term used for executing moves as seen on television or in live shows while not being trained to perform them. Professional wrestlers are highly prepared for their stunts, not to mention the kind of help they receive from props and cinematic angles, from which the average person does not benefit. There's an ongoing debate on whether practicing wrestling-like moves outside the official sporting venue is a bad thing or not. However, do not try to imitate anything you see in this game.
Backyard Wrestling offers a rather humorous take on the whole wrestling frenzy that is sweeping the world. All the wrestlers in the game are kids. You can choose one of the already existing characters, or you can create your own wrestler so that you can then pit them against already established names.
Because the backdrop of the wrestling game is a backyard, as suggested by the title, there are a lot of things different from professional wrestling. The moves are even more outrageous than in real fights and physics much more forgiving. Also, everything within the game world can be used to hit the adversary or as props for even more weird fighting moves. Do not try any of these in real life!
GAMEPLAY HINTS
Whupass mode
Perform aerial moves from objects. It will take several of them to earn whupass mode.
Deflecting objects
If you are holding a barbed wire bat and someone throws a brick at you, try and press X at the correct moment to hit the brick and stop it in mid-air.
GLITCHES
Pinning
Pin your opponent with L1 while he or she is down. If the ref counts 1, 2, 3 and your opponent kicks out a split second after "3", the match will continue. However, if you are being pinned and do this, you will lose the match.
Disappearing and reappearing
When you are in the Truckstop Turmoil, throw your opponent into the gas tank that causes the hay to go on fire. Stand near the leaking gas or the hay. As the intermission sequence that shows the hay catching fire appears, you and the others nearby will be gone, but when you start fighting you are visible.
