Backyard Wrestling is a series of wrestling games aimed at young gamers that was released for the Xbox and for the PlayStation 2 in 2003. Backyard Wrestling was developed by Paradox
Development, while the publishers of the series are Eidos.
Backyard wrestling is also a term used for executing moves as seen on television or in live shows while not being trained to perform them. Professional wrestlers are highly prepared for their stunts, not to mention the kind of help they receive from props and cinematic angles, from which the average person does not benefit. There's an ongoing debate on whether practicing wrestling-like moves outside the official sporting venue is a bad thing or not. However, try to not imitate anything you see in this game.
Backyard Wrestling offers a rather humorous take on the whole wrestling frenzy that is sweeping the world. All the wrestlers in the game are kids. You can choose one of the already existing characters or you can create your own wrestler so that you can then pit them against already established names.
Because the backdrop of the wrestling game is a backyard, as suggested by the title, there are a lot of things that are different from professional wrestling. The moves are even more outrageous than they are in real fights and the physics are much more forgiving. Also, everything within the game world can be used to hit the adversary or as props for even more weird fighting moves. Do not try any of this in real life!
