A baby girl born with two heads in Afghanistan has survived a delicate surgery for the removal of the extra limb.

Asree Gul's second head was attached to her scalp. It was removed in a hospital in the city of Jalalabad and the girl is now stable.

Asree is a two-month-old twin born to a family of local farmers. Nematullah, her father, admits to having no hopes of the girl making it out of the surgery alive.

Chief surgeon Ahmad Obaid Mojadidi believes that the head could have belonged to an undeveloped third sibling.

“Her mother gave birth to twins, two girls. [...] One girl was in good health but the other had an abnormality. She had an extra head attached to her head,” he explains.

The surgical team have not charged for the operation, Daily Mail reports.
