Towards the end of last year, a woman in Missouri, US, delivered a perfectly healthy baby girl. Under any other circumstances, the event would have probably gone unnoticed by anyone outside the family.

The reason the birth of this child is now making headlines is that, when arriving into this world, the woman's child already had two front teeth. Apparently, cases of babies born with teeth are as rare as one in 2,000 – 3,000.

The girl's teeth surprised doctors and nurses

It is understood that the baby girl, named Alyssa Bailey, was born shortly after Christmas, on December 28, at a local hospital in the city of Branson in Missouri, US. The delivery went smoothly, and neither the mother nor the child experienced any complications.

When doctors and nurses got around to having a close look at the child, they could not help but notice two perfectly white teeth sticking out of her bottom jaw. According to the girl's mother, they were quite taken aback by the girl's perfectly formed chompers.

“Right when she first arrived, everybody was just shocked. Just like, ‘She has two front teeth? No kidding? Really?’ It was just a big talk about it, you know, in the delivery room,” the mother told the press in an interview, as cited by ABC News.

As mentioned, just one in 2,000 to 3,000 babies is born sporting a few full-grown teeth. Still, it can sometimes happen for a child to arrive carrying a full set of chompers in their mouth. Needless to say, such cases are extremely rare.

It's not easy being born with teeth

Doctors say that, first off, babies born with teeth risk injuring themselves. Thus, they can easily wound their tongue or their lips when crying, maybe even choke on the chompers, should they happen to fall off. Besides, they can easily hurt their mother when feeding.

To avoid such incidents, specialists often remove these so-called native teeth that some babies are born with. However, it appears that Alyssa Bailey's mother decided to let the child keep her pair. In about six months, the baby should begin teething and her natal chompers should fall off on their own.

The baby girl's mother, identified as Jaklina Bailey, says that she will keep a close eye on her until this happens, just to make sure that the child does not accidentally swallow her natal teeth and choke on them.
