The mother of “Baby Sandy,” a newborn abandoned in Hawaii on Sunday has been located. Police have arrested her, reports are saying.

It turns out that 21-year-old Keala Simeona of Honolulu, who claimed to have found the child, is also her mother.

She has been booked for filing a false police report, The Journal describes. She was then released after posting a $250 (€191) bond.

Simeona claimed to have found the infant on Sandy Beach Sunday night and drove her to a local hospital.

While police have IDed her as the mother, the Department of Human Services is planning to ask for DNA testing in order to obtain confirmation.

As I previously reported, the staff at Queen’s Medical Center describe that the baby is doing well, having been brought in a few hours after birth.
