Those who happen to have some free time on their hands and who also own a few dollar bills that they feel they could part with without too much drama might want to book a flight to Los Angeles in the United States.

This is because, according to media reports, the Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens is now home to a lovely baby takin that was born at this facility earlier this year and that has only recently made its public debut.

According to Zoo Borns, the young takin was born on February 12. It is a female and vets say that it is healthy and active. Besides, its behavior suggests that it has grown accustomed to life at the Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens.

The same source tells us that, presently, the International Union for Conservation of Nature considers the takin to be vulnerable. This is because, courtesy of overhunting and habitat loss, the overall headcount for this species has dropped to a considerable extent in recent years.

According to wildlife researchers, takins are goat-like antelopes. They are related to sheep, and currently inhabit parts of the eastern Himalayas. Up until now, the scientific community has documented four different subspecies.
