Just hours ago, photos emerged of a baby boy who was buried under a collapsed building following the April 25 7.8-magnitude earthquake in Nepal and who was rescued by the military the day after the shake.

The baby boy, said to be only four months old, somehow survived 22 hours trapped in rubble. Having been pulled from the remains of the collapsed building, he was examined by doctors.

Miraculously, the boy didn't suffer any injuries either during the earthquake or during the many hours that he spent buried under bricks. Medical experts found him to be perfectly healthy and so entrusted him to this family.

The baby boy's father could hear him cry

The 4-month-old baby lived in Bhaktapur together with his family. This city, together with Nepal's capital Kathmandu and many other regions, was left devastated by the April 25 earthquake.

The Guardian tells us that, on the day of the shake, the boy's house collapsed. This family managed to run to safety but the child was buried under a pile of bricks and rubble.

Once the ground stopped moving, the boy's family and rescue crews desperately tried to save him but failed. His father could still hear him cry, and so the military kept searching for him. On April 26, the boy was saved.

The earthquake claimed thousands of lives

The 7.8-magnitude that hit Nepal this past April 25 is said to have claimed thousands of lives and to have affected millions. This Tuesday, the death toll stood at over 5,000.

Bodies are still being pulled from the demolished buildings. In a statement, Nepal's prime minister Sushil Koirala said that the earthquake likely killed as many as 10,000 people.

Geologists explain that, as shown by radar satellite images, the shake caused such devastation because it forced a patch of land around Kathmandu upwards by about 1 meter (3 feet).
