As yet another proof that the Spice Girls are no longer, well, exactly that (meaning 'girls'), Emma became the latest member of the former/recently reformed band to give birth to a child over this weekend. Since Melanie Brown, Victoria Beckham and Geri Halliwell are all happy mothers for quite some time now and that Emma just joined the club that only leaves Melanie C to become a mommy too. But that's digressing, of course...
Emma and life partner Jade Jones became happy parents this weekend, at London's private Portland Hospital. They named the 7lb boy Beau, which is French for 'Handsome', because they thought that he was too good looking to not go by that name. Or, as Jade explained outside the hospital: 'His name is the French word for handsome and he is definitely very handsome. Beau looks a bit like both of us actually, so he's a very lucky boy.'
Emma gave birth to the sound of The Beatles' track 'Here Comes the Sun' because, to Jade's own admission, that's their favorite tune. Both mother and child are well and healthy, but they will stay in the hospital for a little while to gain some strength before going home. 'Baby's had a baby now! We're both over the moon and absolutely thrilled to bits to have our little boy. Emma is doing really well - just recovering and bonding with the baby. Both are having a little nap. I don't want to miss a second without him.', Jade also told the journalists gathered outside the hospital gates.
Emma and Jane (who is also a former member of a pop band, the now defunct Damage) have been in an on-and-off relationship for the past eight years until 2006, when they finally made one last step towards a joint life by moving in together. Emma, for one, was especially happy and relieved that she gave birth, since not long ago she had been diagnosed with endometriosis, a condition that made it very hard for her to conceive.
