Caretakers say the eight chicks are all healthy, have quite an appetite

Folks usually visit zoos to catch a glimpse of animals that they would otherwise never get the chance to see. Still, something tells me that few will pass up the opportunity to come face to face with the eight adorable baby silkie chickens that now live at Zoo Basel in Switzerland.

Zoo Borns informs that the chicks, three of which are pictured above, have only recently emerged from their eggs after an incubation period that lasted just 21 days.

They all appear to be in good health, and, judging by their behavior, they all have quite an appetite. Thus, keepers in charge of keeping a close eye on them say that, every time they stumble upon something that resembles a grain, they cannot help but peck at it.

The baby silkie chickens are now looked after by their mom, and, by the looks of it, they are all convinced that no harm can come to them as long as they are by its side. Hence the fact that, whenever they feel that they might be in trouble, they rush back to their mother.

The chicks have not yet been introduced to the rest of the brood, and caretakers say that this will only happen once they get a tad bigger and stronger. However, visitors to Zoo Basel have been given permission to watch them explore the stall that they share with their mother.
