Speculation about Oscar-winner Jennifer Hudson being with child has been running rampant over the past couple of months, but the singer has kept mum on the subject so far. Now, a close friend of hers has spoken to the media and revealed Jennifer is definitely pregnant, as the baby shower she held over the weekend can clearly confirm, the Chicago Tribune writes.

Since October last year when her mother, brother and nephew were brutally slain, Hudson, who already boasts an Oscar award for her supporting role in “Dreamgirls,” has kept a very low profile, shunning media attention and basically seeing to moving on with the help of her fiancé, former reality TV star David Otunga. Although they’re not yet ready to settle down, the two have already started working on a family, from what Jennifer’s friend tells the aforementioned publication.

“It was a baby shower, a quiet gathering of friends and mostly family. They’re really trying to keep it kind of quiet.” singer / actress and longtime friend Felicia Fields tells the Chicago Tribune of Saturday’s gathering. “It was a nice time that we had.” Fields added for the same publication, refusing to go into details as to when Hudson may be due or whether the couple already knew if it was a boy or a girl they were expecting. However, given Jennifer’s appearance in recent weeks, it is believed she is many months along, which means she might be giving birth any day now.

As fans must know, prior to winning the Academy Award for her part in “Dreamgirls,” Jennifer came the public’s attention for being an American Idol reject, despite having an impressive voice and the ability to constantly improve it. Almost immediately after being turned down for a chance at stardom with the popular singing competition, Hudson auditioned and got the part in “Dreamgirls,” a movie that eventually went to scope a wide array of awards both in music and in film.

Until October, when her brother-in-law committed the three crimes, Hudson actively pursued a career in film and music, enjoying plenty of support from her immense fanbase. After the killings, she went into self-imposed exile as she learned how to cope with her mother’s death, to whom she was extremely close. In recent months, Jennifer Hudson has slowly begun to perform, having just finished a concert tour that she co-headlined with singer Robin Thicke.
