The orangutan is now one year old, seems happy to be in its mom's company

A one-year-old orangutan living at Zoo Atlanta in the United States is finally beginning to figure out just how cool it is to have a mom around.

Zoo Borns tells us that this baby orangutan was born through C-section last year, on January 10.

Its mom, a female by the name Blaze, did not take lightly to the surgery, and, despite the fact that it recovered quite well from the experience, it had trouble providing Pongo with the care and attention the latter needed.

Hence, zoo employees adopted the baby orangutan, and with help from volunteers and veterinarians, took care of raising it for a full year.

While Blaze was getting back on its feet, caretakers at the zoo made sure that the orangutans were not entirely separated from one another.

Thus, Blaze and Pongo stayed in touch with one another, and ever got to observe each other over a barrier.

Fast forward a few play dates, and they were put together in an outdoor habitat. They now get along quite well, and, even if zoo employees must still feed Pongo on a regular basis, its mom seems more than willing to do its job of looking after it.
