The joey was born in May, keepers are yet to figure out if it's a boy or a girl

Folks who chanced to visit Edinburgh Zoo this past weekend were the first to see a baby koala born at the facility earlier this year, in May.

According to Daily Mail, it was last Sunday when the joey decided to make its public debut, and slowly and carefully emerged from its mother's pouch.

When it was born, the baby koala was entirely fur-free and, truth be told, quite ugly. However, it now sports a lovely fur coat.

During the day, it settles for getting just one arm or one leg out of the pouch that serves as its home.

However, keepers say that, during nighttime, it is confident enough to come out of its hiding place and climb onto its mother's back.

Vets working with the zoo have not yet had the chance to closely examine the joey, so they are unable to say whether it is a boy or a girl. They hope to soon find the answer to this most pressing question and promise that, once they do, they will let the koala family's fans know.
