A baby has been born by Caesarean in Williamsburg, Brooklyn while both his parents suffered serious wounds, dying after being transported to the hospital.

The Orthodox Jewish couple, both 21 years old, were on their way to a clinic when their car was hit in a hit-and-run.

Police are still searching for the driver of the BMW that crashed into the young parents' vehicle. He reportedly left the site after the incident, and was accompanied by a passenger. Police have released no further information about the car or the people inside it.

According to the Daily Mail, the victims have been identified as Nachman and Raizy Glauber, from Brooklyn. The accident occurred just yards from their home, The Mirror reports.

Their son was delivered by paramedics at the scene of the crash, early on Sunday, March 3. His mother was then taken to a hospital, where she passed away. The boy has been born prematurely at seven months and is currently fighting for his life.

“The child is in a serious condition. Now we just pray that all medical efforts keep him alive,” describes Isaac Abraham, a friend of the family's.

He will be taken care of by the victims' relatives, as he has been born into two prominent families in the Brooklyn Orthodox Jewish Satmar community. Hours after the crash, hundreds gathered for the young couple's funeral processions.

“If one had to go, the other had to go too because they really were one soul,” notes Nachman Glauber's cousin, Sara Glauber.

“You don't meet anyone better than him. [...] He was always doing favors for everyone. [...] He was the sweetest, most charming human being, always with a smile on his face,” she says of her cousin.

“The baby has no worry at all about being well raised and well taken care of,” Abraham adds.
