Chelewa, a gorilla living in captivity at Spain's Cabarceno Natural Park, has recently delivered a healthy baby. Keepers say the newborn gorilla is surprisingly active, and that, although it weighs less than 5 pounds (2.3 kilograms), is seems ready to take on the world.

Vets have not been able to get close enough to the gorilla family to figure out if the baby is a boy or a girl, but believe they will soon have an answer to this question. Shortly after, keepers will settle for a name for the park's new arrival.

Daily Mail tells us that this baby gorilla is Chelewa's second offspring. Last year, the ape delivered a girl, but accidentally killed it when it tried to move it. By the looks of it, the mother gorilla grabbed hold of its baby a tad too tight, and broke two of its ribs.

Despite this accident, staff at the Cabarceno Natural Park believe that Chelewa can be trusted to look after its second baby. They will keep a close eye on them nonetheless.
