Earlier this month, the Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens in the United States became home to a baby Sichuan Takin that was born at this facility on February 12.

Vets have had the chance to examine the new arrival and are pleased to announce that, for the time being, the newborn herbivore is in good health.

Besides, keepers say that, as far as they can tell, it has bonded well with its mother.

The baby Sichuan Takin is a female and, as easily noticeable in the picture above, it has a lot of growing up to do until its size even resembles that of its mom.

According to Zoo Borns, this species of so-called goat-antelopes inhabits remote mountain forests in China. They can navigate rocky cliffs without much difficulty, and chiefly feed on leaves.

Due to habitat loss, hunting, and human disturbance, the species is currently listed as a vulnerable one.
