In late May, two black rhinos living in captivity at Zoo Miami in the United States became the proud parents of the adorable calf featured in the photo above.

Information shared with the public says that the calf arrived into this world on a Sunday, on the 25th day of the month, at about 11 p.m. It was born to mom Circe and dad Eddie, both of which are 14 years old.

Zoo Borns tells us that, according to vets who have had the chance to examine it, the baby black rhino is in good health condition, and growing stronger and more confident every day.

Thus, the calf now weighs about 122 pounds (a little over 55 kilograms) and stands to get even plumber in the weeks to come, the same source explains. Simply put, it is steadily growing into a lovely young lady.

Due to poaching activities and the illegal trade in animal body parts, black rhinos currently find themselves on the list of highly endangered species. It is estimated that just 5,000 such animals are left in the wild.

Hoping to save the species from falling off the biodiversity map, conservationists are not only trying to end poaching activities, but also to breed black rhinos in captivity.

In fact, this female is the 13th black rhino to have until now been born at Zoo Miami.
