GPS navigation plus data logging, all in one device

GPS data loggers are not exactly a very new concept, as people have been using these things for quite some time now either for tracking their own movements or those of their assets (or family members). However, the device from QStarz does bring about a relatively interesting development, namely the fact that the BT-Q 1000 works perfectly fine as a GPS data logger when left on its own, but doubles as a GPS receiver when connected to a computing system running a navigation software, as the people from the DigitalReviews Network inform us.

'But what's the connection with Google Earth?', you might ask. Well, the answer is simple. Much in the same way as a whole range of other similar products, the BT-Q 1000 can download the recorded data onto a computer and then use the respective data in order to recreate in Google Earth the path followed by the device while in recording mode. Thus, by using Google's service, the manufacturers of GPS data loggers don't have to pay for their own, proprietary navigation suites, which seriously reduces the overall manufacturing costs.

The BT-Q 1000 GPS Data Logger from QStarz offers rather average recording functions. For example, it retains the time/distance/speed in the memory, and also features a couple of multi-mode settings, depending on what the person uses for moving around: a vehicle, a bicycle or his/her own feet. Moreover, recording a point of interest in the memory (which, by the way, can hold around 100,000 such POIs) is quite an easy task, since all the user has to do is press the red button on the device.

The BT-Q 1000 uses an MTK chipset solution, while the GPS receiver can track up to 32 satellites simultaneously. Moreover, the built-in battery is quite a high-quality one, as the device can work for up to 32 hours in a row without recharging. The device from QStarz will be available for around 120 US dollars, which seems a bit too much to pay for a device coming from a new-comer on the GPS market.
