BT Business has launched Office Anywhere aiming to offer users all of the capabilities of a PC running Windows included
in a smartphone, namely the S620 manufactured by Taiwan's
HTC. While this might sound appealing at first, the offering brings nothing new. What it does offer is VoIP and WiFi that could lead to some serious cash saving for the user.
The device runs
Windows Mobile, packs a 2.4 inch screen, Bluetooth for connectivity, a media player with support for several file formats, full QWERTY keyboard for more convenient email, texting and document editing, HTC's JOGGR touch sensitive navigation bar and a 1.3 megapixel camera allowing the user to take snapshots.
Also included, as usual, are all of the Office applications that will allow the viewing/editing of Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents on mobile.
According to BT, it will allow a business user to work as effectively when out of the office just as he/she would while at work. The single cost-effective subscription will give the user inclusive mobile minutes and data allowance.
Moreover, users will also be able to make unlimited, hour-long VoIP calls to UK landlines from the office or public WiFi hotspots. If the user decides to sign up for a contract, the device will be available for free. Contracts range between Office Anywhere Simple, which includes 10MB a month for up to 100 emails a day, to Office Anywhere Unlimited created for the users that receive and send an impressive number of emails throughout each day. The prices of the contracts will go from £39.50 to £75.50 per month.
