Sony Ericsson BRAVIA SO906i is a new mobile phone that the Swedish-Japanese company is launching in Japan, offering consumers high-end features into a simple and elegant clamshell design.

Since it has "BRAVIA" in its name, the new SO906i features a 3 inch high-end display that uses the same technology as the Sony BRAVIA line-up of LCD screens. Besides having 3 inches, the phone's display also comes with a 16:6 contrast ratio, 16 million colors and a 480 x 864 pixel resolution. With this kind of display, when flipped at 180?, the SO906i turns into a really nice mini TV.

The rest of the features packed in the SO906i include: built-in GPS, both GSM and 3G connectivity, Music and Video players, Motion control, a 3.2 Megapixel camera with auto focus, flash and video recording, photo editor, advanced email and Web capabilities, document editor and viewer, PDF viewer and 1GB of internal memory that can be expanded with a microSD or microSDHC card for up to a total of 9GB. All these (plus many others features, of course) are squeezed into a case that measures 103 x 49 x 18 millimeters (when closed) and weighs 129 grams.

Although the battery included in the new BRAVIA phone is only an 870 mAh one, it can offer a pretty good lifetime. In talk-time mode, the battery should last up to 230 minutes, while in stand-by mode it's capable of lasting up to 590 hours (on CDMA networks) and 310 hours (on GSM). Moreover, the battery can provide up to 250 minutes of continuous TV viewing and about 16 hours of continuous music playback.

Sony Ericsson BRAVIA SO906i will be available starting the 2nd of June, via NTT DoCoMo (the largest mobile operator in Japan), in four color versions: Starlight Blue, Mirage Pink, Aurora Red and Cosmic Black. The phone's price was not yet unveiled, but we do know that DoCoMo is offering the handset under the name of FOMA SO906i (check out its presentation page at this address).

To find out more about the BRAVIA SO906i you can also check out its official page from the Japanese Sony Ericsson website. Click here if you can read in Japanese, or here for the Google English translation of the page.

Phones like the new BRAVIA SO906i will most probably not get out of Japan too soon. Which is really unfair, as I'm sure many users around the world would want to have a handset like this.

Update: We've spotted several live images with the SO906i, on Just Another Mobile Phone Blog. Check them out below:
