Bitstream Inc. announced today that its BOLT browser for mobile phones managed to deliver more than 100 million pages during its six months of availability. The software solution was released in February, and is enjoying an adoption growth rate of more than 50 percent per month. During the six-month time frame since its launch, BOLT has seen its average usage rate increase three times, while the company's servers report more than 1.4 million pages served each day.

According to the company, the main features that BOLT comes towards mobile phone users with include the fact that it is the fastest browser on the market, that it can deliver full websites the way they would appear on desktop computers, or that it can stream videos from popular video services like YouTube. In addition, the software solution also provides users with the ability to copy/paste text, while also enabling them to upload either photos or videos on websites directly from it.

“There is no argument that the Internet is an essential part of peoples’ daily lives,” Anna Chagnon, Bitstream’s president and CEO, said. “However a problem with the vast majority of mobile phones is that while they are capable of Internet access, they don’t possess browsers that display websites properly. Most websites are designed solely with PC viewing in mind, and even with billions of Internet-capable phones in use, a great many of the most popular websites still don’t have mobile companion websites. We believe the fact that BOLT was installed more than one million times in just the first four months since its launch is proof of the market’s desire to bridge this gap between the World Wide Web and mobile platforms.”

BOLT has been designed to conserve data transmissions, and can deliver great speed to users. According to Bitstream, BOLT's speed would be 25 percent to 50 percent faster than the ones featured by rival solutions. Thus, the browser can provide ultra-fast viewing of streaming and flash video, as well as great rendering of rich media and graphics, offering users the possibility to enjoy the same browsing experience as on their desktop PCs.

It should be noted that the data includes the usage from the BOLT lite solution as well. The application has been designed for use with mobile devices that feature a lower performance power. Basically, it comes with the essential features of the browser, yet it leaves aside some of the advanced ones. Those who would like to try BOLT or BOLT lite will find the solutions available for download with the company's public beta test, here.
