More and more carmakers are rushing to ensure that the iPhone can be properly used with their cars. While Apple's hot new product is nowhere near as ubiquitous as the iPod, it is still receiving a great deal of attention and iPhone integrations seem to be a feature that everyone wants to offer. BMW has constantly been first when it comes to integration with Apple's popular products and they intend to stay first.

So far the iPhone is only officially available in the US, with an European launch later this year, the lack of actual iPhone availability won't stop BMW from offering integration. The German carmaker is the latest manufacturer to announce that iPhone support will be introduced for a wide range of vehicles made available in Europe. The option will be available for all Minis and BMW Series 6, 5, 3, 1, and X5 cars. While it might still be months before they can buy an iPhone in their country, BMW customers have the piece of mind that the device will properly work with the car's systems. The iPod functions of the device including playback and navigation of tracks by artist, album and playlist; as well as call making, receiving and rejecting can all be handled through the car's systems, with all the relevant information displayed.

"In 2004, BMW was the first to integrate the iPod into BMW vehicles and have customers take full control of their music on the road. So it seemed only logical that BMW be among the first to ensure iPhone owners have the same ability to enjoy their music, plus the added benefits of Bluetooth hands-free calling across our model line," the company said.

The German carmaker plans to present its range of iPhone-equipped cars at the Frankfurt Auto Show, on the 13th of September.
