The world has been waiting for it ever since the German brand brought the Concept C scooter to the EICMA show in Milan late last year. Now, the zero emission version takes shape to meet the mobility needs of the future: the BMW Motorrad Concept e.

Making its world public debut at the Frankfurt International Motor Show (IAA) these days, the Concept e is everything that BMW thinks the e-scooter of the future should be: electric, digital, dynamic.

But, it’s not just the technical side of this two-wheeled machine that has a great potential to attract buyers, as consumers are also expected to fall for the scooter’s style and shaping. The design, coloring and choice of materials, have all been carefully chosen.

As we’ve seen in BMW’s motorcycles, the so-called split face runs from the upper trim section to above the front wheel cover. A twin-tipped spoiler in the floating panel of the front trim is featured, with the vehicle also sporting a low cut windshield. Moreover, the design of the light alloy wheels is inspired by the styling of the BMW i automobiles.

The front and rear side trim sections are finished in “Light white”, while the upper trim section comes in “Black chrome light”, and side sills are coated in “Black chrome dark”. The front trim section, the rear section and the hollow-bore wheel axle, all come in “Electric yellow”.

What is really interesting about the Concept e is the fact that it has no conventional rearview mirrors, featuring two video cameras integrated in the glass of the rear light cluster instead. The rider sees the images on two LCD monitors installed in the cockpit, where a digital display also shows speed and other relevant data.

The production version will offer dynamic figures comparable to those of a maxi scooter with a combustion engine and a high range in realistic conditions of use.

Before the end of this year, BMW Motorrad will be establishing its new "Urban Mobility" area with two premium vehicles in the maxi scooter segment. Both vehicles are powered by high-performance and efficient 2-cylinder combustion engines, and will be brought to the EICMA Show in Milan this November.
