BLU Win HD LTE is one of the mid-range Windows Phone handsets launched by the US-based company last month. The smartphone ships with Windows Phone 8.1 operating system out of the box, but BLU Products confirmed the device is Windows 10-ready.

However, until the Win HD LTE gets Windows 10 Mobile, it looks like BLU and Microsoft have teamed up to offer owners the option to upgrade to Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2, WindowsCentral reports.

There aren't many smartphones that have been upgraded to Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2, also known as GDR2, but beginning this weekend BLU Win HD LTE will be one of those devices.

Although previous rumors claimed Microsoft had no intention of bringing Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2 to more smartphones other than Lumia, it looks like in the last few days GDR2 update has been released for HTC One M8 for Windows and BLU Win HD LTE.

Two more smartphones, Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL ship with Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2 onboard, while Lumia 735 and Lumia 830 have been confirmed to receive the upgrade as well.

Moreover, Verizon's Lumia 735 is expected to be released with Update 2 inside, but the information has yet to be confirmed by the carrier.

New connectivity features and few visual improvements

Anyway, Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2 brings some important new features and improvements, which are already included in Windows 10 Mobile Technical Preview, but if you aren't a Windows Insider, you won't be able to get them.

For example, Update 2 adds many Bluetooth enhancements like Stack, MAP, and HID 1.1. Also, the update should also bring MKV video support, as well as visual improvements to Settings menu and a brand-new All Apps button at the bottom of the Start screen.

If you own the BLU Win HD LTE, then you should check for Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2 on your smartphone. If it's not yet available, you may want to try out later, as the upgrade is rolled out in waves.
