It might arrive in a final version in summer, alongside Windows Phone 8.1

The BlackBerry Messenger is coming to Windows Phone devices and it should become available for download pretty soon, the latest reports on the matter suggest.

To be more precise, a recent tweet coming from BlackBerry Leaks says that the application is already being pushed to testers out there, which suggests that an official release might not be far either.

BlackBerry has yet to officially confirm the development stage that BBM for Windows Phone has reached, though we expect it to keep mum on the matter for a bit longer, at least until a public test version of the mobile client is made available for download.

Back in February, Canadian mobile phone maker BlackBerry confirmed during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona that BBM would indeed come to Windows Phone, though it did not provide specific info on when that might happen.

However, reports on the matter suggested that the popular messaging service might be released on the platform alongside Windows Phone 8.1, and chances are that this will indeed pan out.

For those out of the loop, we should note that Microsoft unveiled last week that Windows Phone 8.1 would start rolling out to users in the coming months.

With BBM for Windows Phone finally hitting testing phase, it’s clear that it might be a few months away from a final release too, and the timing fits with what Microsoft announced for the new OS version. Both of them should be ready for deployment this summer.

Of course, things will turn this way in the event that no major bugs are found inside the application, since such issues could greatly delay its release.

No official info on the availability of BBM for Windows Phone has been provided as of now, but chances are that the rumor will indeed pan out.

The messaging service is already available on Android and iOS, and the fact that Windows Phone has become the third largest mobile operating system out there has determined BlackBerry to speed up the release of BBM on this OS as well.

Details on what the services will arrive with on Windows Phone are missing at the moment, though users might see all of the features and capabilities currently available on other mobile platforms being pushed to them too.

Furthermore, as BlackBerry unveiled several weeks ago, some Nokia devices will arrive on the market with BBM pre-installed. Most probably, these will be the entry-level Lumia phones aimed at emerging markets, given that the messaging service is highly popular there.
