BBC’s popular iPlayer app is apparently getting very popular with tablet users, as the British Broadcast Corporation has released a set of statistics detailing the number of requests the application received in 2013.

According to the information, the BBC iPlayer app saw a record 3 billion requests in 2013 which constitutes a considerable 22% increase, compared to 2012 (via Pocket-Lint).

On tablets, there was a massive 104% increase year-over-year in terms of requests to stream content. More than that 20% of all TV and radio iPlayer requests for the month of December came from tableters.

Previously, it was reported that during December 26 and 27 more people tended to watch iPlayer content from their tablet computer, shunning the good old PC, not to mention the traditional TV.

The BBC iPlayer was released back in 2006 and since then it has offered users the ability to stream select BBC TV and BBC Radio content. The service is available for a wide range of platforms including iOS, Android and PlayStation 4.
