The BBC website was officially launched 10 years ago and it has been the address to go to for the top news from the most reliable sources ever since. The facelift that they are trying to go through at the moment is not the first attempt at it,
there was also a "myBBC" feature that resembled the concept behind the beta site. "MyBBC" was quietly shut down in 2003.
The new page, to which you can get to by clicking on the link that I've taken the liberty of encircling in red on the first picture on the left, is basically made up of customizable widgets that the users get to move around and which grant them access to weather, news, and even headlines and information about their favorite programmes. The whole point to it is to provide the
bbc.co.uk users with more control over what they are directly interested in on the site, instead of having to browse through all its content to get to the stories that appeal to them. Tony Ageh, internet controller at the BBC, said: "These exciting developments mark an important stage in the work the BBC is doing to aggregate content more effectively and give users more control over how they experience bbc.co.uk."
Martin Belam of the BBC said that: "It seemed that in some ways that level of personalization was a challenge for the BBC's very mainstream online audience. It will be interesting to see how the new drag 'n' drop BBC homepage interface fares with that same audience nearly five years later [than the time myBBC was shut down]."
You can see the new face of the site in the second picture on the left. Much more classy, in my opinion, and due to the personalization, much more reliable and time-saving, too.
