Ubisoft has announced that composer Jason Graves, who has taken home the BAFTA award for his work on the music of Dead Space, has created the score for Silent Hunter 5: Battle of the Atlantic, the World War II submarine simulation set to be released in March.

The composer worked directly with developers Ubisoft Romania to create a soundtrack, which manages to show off the tension and terror inherent to underwater operations. Those who are interested in the soundtrack can get it as part of the Collector's Edition of Silent Hunter 5: Battle of the Atlantic or can download it using the iTunes service.

Jason Graves is also working on the music for the upcoming Command & Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight, due to launch in March as well, and has also worked on feature films and more than 90 television shows and 150 commercials. Silent Hunter 5: Battle of the Atlantic will use sounds and music as another way of showing the player the emotional tension present on German U-boats during their ocean sorties in search of prey.

Mihai Gheorghiu, who is the audio director at Ubisoft Romania, stated that “Working with Jason to compose music for Silent Hunter 5: Battle of the Atlantic was a real pleasure. Continuing the franchise's tradition for high-quality orchestral scores, he delivered an intense soundtrack that captures the essence of the gameplay and enhances the overall experience for the player.”

Graves himself was interested in the Silent Hunter 5 project because “I always try to find a unique approach to every score I compose. I thought the German perspective of the story would permit more musical liberty than my previous World War II scores.” He reveals that quintessential classical music composers like Wagner and Mozart were the main influences on the soundtrack he created.
