After years of being restricted to the US, there is hope of expansion

One of the main reasons behind the big sales gap between Amazon's Kindle e-readers and B&N's Nook is that Barnes & Noble does not have a worldwide presence like the former.

Things have now changed: B&N has started a new company in Germany, called Barnes & Noble Digital Media GmbH.

The filing procedure was started two weeks ago and will ultimately consolidate in Berlin, with Eugene DeFelice acting as vice president, general counsel, and corporate secretary.

The hopes that a European Nook will result from all this are still rather dim though.

Even with a visit paid by B&N to London, to try and get developers interested in the Nook, there doesn't seem to be a plan fully in place.

Until something else occurs, the bookstore chain will have to make do with the 3.5% share it has at present.
