Gran Turismo 6 developer Polyphony Digital has confirmed that it's going to launch the Ayrton Senna Tribute downloadable content pack for free on May 27, allowing fans of the legendary racing driver to pilot some of his emblematic vehicles, such as the Lotus 97T Formula 1 car.

Gran Turismo 6 appeared for the PlayStation 3 last December and delivered another great iteration in the racing simulator series, with improved visuals, better mechanics, and a much smoother introduction of downloadable content, such as free cars or tracks.

Developer Polyphony Digital is currently busy with the PS4 adaptation of the game, but this doesn't mean that it's going to neglect current PS3 owners.

Quite the opposite, as the studio has just revealed on the PS Blog that it's going to debut a new round of downloadable content for the racing simulator on the PS3.

This time around, instead of futuristic concepts from companies like Mercedes-Benz, Polyphony is going to the past and will launch on May 27 the Ayrton Senna Tribute downloadable content pack.

"Since the announcement of the partnership between Gran Turismo and the Ayrton Senna Institute last year, we’ve been working hard to reveal more details on how you can celebrate the life and achievements of the racing legend."

"The Ayrton Senna Tribute content update will let you trace the roots of his racing career and relive some of Senna’s best moments, including his pole position laps on circuits such as Brands Hatch and Monza."

On May 27, a special new section dedicated to Ayrton Senna will appear on the main menu once the free update is downloaded and installed by the game via the PlayStation Network online service.

In this new section, players can find special challenges based on the life of Ayrton Senna, including races on classic versions of famous circuits like Brands Hatch or Monza.

"The content release includes one of Senna’s first go-karts, built by DAP, which helped start his racing career, and the Lotus 97T that Senna drove during his second Formula 1 season in 1985 when he tallied seven poles."

"Earn a bronze or better in any of the Senna Challenges and you’ll receive the car. In addition, Senna Challenges place racers in the same courses driven by Senna, challenging them to beat his legendary lap times."

The lap times were revealed by the developer in a special list, so check it out below.

Lotus 97T

Course: Monza ’85 layout Target Time: Senna’s pole position time 1’25.084

Lotus 97T

Course: Brands Hatch ’85 layout Target Time: Senna’s pole position time 1’07.169

Of course, you can always buy the car with in-game credits from the Ayrton Senna dealership, without needing to complete the seasonal event.
