Axiotron, the company whose business has been revived by the iPad announcement (or so they say), has announced a promotion for its customers, comprised of a programmable digitizer pen with every Modbook purchase. According to the company’s announcement, the standalone accessory normally retails for $50.

An excerpt from the official press release issued by Axiotron yesterday can be found below.

"High-tech manufacturer Axiotron today announced a new promotion for the company’s award-winning Modbook solution, the one and only Mac tablet computer. Under the promotion, every Modbook ships with an additional (second) digitizer pen set (a $50 value) that includes a programmable digitizer pen and replacement felt, pencil and studio pen tips. This promotion is valid while supplies last."

Axiotron’s business revolves around Apple notebooks. It takes whatever model customers bring in, strips them of their case and keyboard, and puts the pieces back together in a compact shell, leaving the keyboard out. The company also throws in some of its magic to make OS X respond to touch, to ultimately sell what is currently the only Mac tablet available on the market for $899. Brand-new units can also be acquired (at a higher price).

Answering demand spanning years, Apple unveiled the much-awaited iPad in January. While not a full-fledged tablet computer, the iPhone OS-based iPad will undoubtedly steal some lost customers back, when it’s released later this month.

“Apple’s introduction of the iPad has also brought renewed attention to the Modbook,” Axiotron CEO Andreas E. Haas said. “The iPad, like the iPhone and iPod touch which share its operating system, offers a unique way of consuming media content. However, Modbook users require more: the full Mac OS X experience with multi-tasking applications and the Finder, desktop-like processing and graphics power, handwriting recognition, and the detail and control that only a pressure-sensitive pen-input system can provide. That’s because Modbook users don’t just consume media content — they create it! Only the Modbook offers creative professionals and general users a complete, Mac OS X-based tablet computer solution.”
