It is basically an all-in-one computer with touchscreen input

Among the unusual sights in the IT industry, Axiomtek's latest invention may just stand out even more than the rest, having a modulized design, of all things, which allows easy deployment and maintenance.

We'd call this an all-in-one computer, since that's essentially what the item is, but the look and feel doesn't quite fit the concept.

Axiomtek calls it a panel computer, so that's the moniker we'll go with as well.

The product name is GOT3187W-832-PCT, although PCAP Panel Computer rolls off the tongue easier.

Spec-wise, the 18.5-inch TFT widescreen panel has a WXGA resolution, 1280 x 768 pixels, which isn't all that incredible now that Full HD is normal on 10.1-inch tablets (1920 x 1080/1200 pixels).

Then again, this isn't supposed to be an overpowered product, so Axiomtek didn't make it one.

That is why the CPU is on the low side of the performance spectrum (Atom Cedarview D2550 dual-core with 1.86 GHz clock).

The Intel NM10 Express chipset supports it, and manages the 2.5-inch SATA HDD (hard disk drive), one CompactFlash memory card slot, built-in WLAN (optional) and various other connectors and plugs.

For those who want a full list, Axiomtek included a pair of Gigabit Ethernet ports, four USB 2.0 connectors, two COM ports (1 x RS-232, 1 x RS-232/422/485) audio (line-out).

Other features include a projected capacitive multi-touch screen, support for panel mount and optional wall mount/VESA arm/desktop stand, a wide range temperature support (-10XC ~ +50XC in operation), and a front bezel rated for IP65 water/dust protection.

Finally, the monitor/PC has one DDR3-800 SO-DIMM socket (up to 4 GB DDR3 memory) and one PCI Express Mini Card slot.

The official product page has more information, albeit nothing on the price. Since sales will only start in late June, we'll have to wait till then.
