Pop singer Avril Lavigne has become engaged with her lover, rock star Deryck Whibley in this weekend. Deryck, the frontman for the punk-pop group Sum 41, proposed Avril over the weekend while Lavigne was finishing up the European leg of her tour.

Deryck, 25, and Avril, 20, had been good pals for several years and since 2004 they began dating. Publicists for both musicians confirmed the engagement. The couple lives together in a Los Angeles home they bought last year (
