Avril Lavigne apologizes for using profanity during post-baseball game concert

Over the weekend, Avril Lavigne performed at the Tampa Bay Rays game on the Tropicana Field and, when her microphone went out and the audience started booing, she dropped an F-bomb, angering organizers.

Right before she kicked off her live show in front of 25,000 fans, something happened to her mic, prompting her to say that this “[expletive]-ing happens on a baseball field.”

E! Online reports that, while Avril certainly didn’t direct the profanity at the fans, who were probably not even booing her but rather the mishap, organizers felt the need to apologize for her outburst.

At the same time, they subtly admonished the singer for not living up to their expectations in delivering a profanity-free performance for fans of the team.

Perhaps not wanting to leave the impression that she actually swore at the fans instead of the faulty mic, Avril too has issued an apology – and she did it at the end of the night no less.

“We just had so much fun tonight and we want to take the tirade out and say thank you to the Tampa Bay Rays! I’m truly sorry if anyone was offended by my language,” she told fans.

Judging by their cheers and wild applauses, they quickly forgave her for the slip of tongue.

“The Rays demand profanity-free performances from all of our concert performers, and we are extremely disappointed by the language used in last night’s show,” says the statement from organizers.

“It is not consistent with the atmosphere that Tropicana Field is known for,” the apology further says.

Other than this minor incident, the game and the concert went ahead without a glitch.

“Lavigne, who also threw out the ceremonial first pitch at the game, got it together after the malfunction and performed the rest of her set curse-free,” E! writes.
