Avira launched a new utility that is designed to offer online shoppers the possibility to choose between the best prices of a product. Avira Savings Advisor is a browser add-on that can detect a product on a web page and provide alternatives with better prices from reputable vendors.

Since bargains can sometimes be the front for a fraudulent activity, Avira took the necessary steps to keep the shopper protected by carefully selecting the cheaper alternatives based on several criteria.

The selection standards relies on positive user input, certificates and trust-marks, availability of encrypted payment systems and at least two trusted payment options.

Before presenting the options, the add-on also takes into account the presence of telephone support, stated return policies, company history (business has to be active for more than one year) as well as a positive credit score via Creditreform Check.

Travis Witteveen, CEO of Avira, said that Avira Savings Advisor (Chrome, Firefox, IE and Safari) emerged as a result of a survey that showed that 50% of the customers don’t know how to evaluate the safety of online shops.

“We wanted to offer people something really useful for the busy online shopping season and beyond, so we collected some of our security wisdom and Internet know-how and packaged it into a simple-to-use browser add-on that is optimized for both safe online shopping and finding the best deals,” he added.
