Avira has released a new update to its free antivirus software for OS X customers, Avira Free Mac Security 2.0.3.54, which packs equal doses of new features, enhancements, and fixes.

According to the release notes accompanying Avira Free Mac Security 2.0.3.54, product notifications will now be shown directly in Notification Center, with on-Access on/off and On-Access alerts.

The online help menu actually includes some help topics now, and avid users will probably notice some minute UI tweaks here and there. For those who are more concerned with the program’s functionality, scan performance has been improved, “especially with backup programs Real-time protection,” according to the developers.

Notable improvements have been carried out in areas like quarantine management, the uninstallation procedure, real-time malware detection, and even in GUI (Graphical User Interface) stability.

Some bugs have been addressed as well. An issue with copying big files and scanning them should no longer give you headaches, and any translation errors you may have noticed should be addressed. Wording throughout the app has been improved, logs are completely visible now, and on-demand-scan should no longer crash. An issue that could lead to a situation where the GUI would not respond any longer is also patched.

Mac users can download Avira Free Mac Security 2.0.3.54 from Softpedia immediately. Requirements include 2GB RAM, Intel 64-bit processor, and 200MB of disk space.
