Players of Avernum 6 are advised to download and install the latest update from Spiderweb Software, going by a post on the company’s website. According to the developers, update version 1.0.2 will make Avernum 6 slightly easier, in what is a second attempt to adjust the gameplay difficulty.

In December 2009, the just-released Avernum 6 for Mac was already getting maintenance updates, addressing difficulty issues and a number of minor bugs. Seemingly, gamers are still not satisfied with the changes, going by Spiderweb’s latest post. It says that, by applying update 1.0.2, the game will become slightly easier, in general. “Your foes will have slightly less health and damage capability,” Spiderweb explains. In addition to these changes, the company claims to have made “many more enhancements.”

“We have updated Avernum 6 for the Macintosh to v1.0.2. This update contains quite a few bug fixes and smooths out the game difficulty,” Spiderweb Software’s exact words are. “Upgrading is recommended,” the company claims. Spiderweb also explains that, whether you’re new to the game, or looking to update your existing version, all you need to do is download the demo and drag it into your Applications folder. For those who didn’t previously own the title, the newest version of Avernum 6 will run in demo mode. For those who already have it on their Macs, the registration will remain unchanged, and the game will be updated to the newest version.

Avernum 6, the conclusion of the long Avernum series of games, was scheduled for a release in winter 2009 for Mac OS X. In what would be considered an atypical move for the gaming industry, Avernum 6 is going to reach Windows PC gamers later, in spring 2010.

On the Mac front, the game requires a Macintosh running OS X 10.3.9 or later, a 1.6GhZ processor (minimum), a video card or processor with OpenGL support and 32MB video RAM (64 MB recommended), 512MB of RAM, 200MB of hard disk space, and a 1024x600 screen resolution with 32-bit color. According to Spiderweb Software, Avernum 6 will run natively on Intel Macs.
