14 DAY TRIAL // Developer Spiderweb Software has recently announced their return to the gaming industry with a brand new game, Avernum 2: Crystal Souls. Most CRPG fans are aware of Spiderweb’s lineup of games, so they probably know what to expect from the title in terms of gameplay and story.
Just to be sure, here are some major points that would recommend Avernum 2: Crystal Souls to all those who love CRPG titles like Geneforge, Avadon and Avernum (The Black Fortress, Escape From the Pit).
First of all, this is an epic game, which is supposed to offer players more than 50 hours of gameplay easily. If you have any experience with any of Spiderweb’s previous titles, then you know that is not just a number thrown on a paper that should make the game look good.
Spiderweb’s games usually tend to be huge when it comes to gameplay, so expect Avernum 2: Crystal Souls to bring quite a lot of that as well. According to the developer, the game features more than 100 towns and dungeons, hence the huge gameplay time.

In Avernum 2, players will explore the subterranean world full of strange caves inhabited by aliens of the underworld. In order to achieve victory, you will have to complete one of the three main quests that the game provides you with. You can even complete all of them and win the game.
The game is said to include more than 60 spells and battle disciplines, as well as many character traits that players can choose from. Lots of side quests and even more magical artifact will be available in the game.
CRPG fans should also know that the Avernum 2’s story is self-contained, so there’s no need to have played any of the Avernum game previously launched.
Avernum 2: Crystal Souls will be available from January 14, via Steam, GOG and Humble Store, for only €14.99 ($17.99).
