Google's Android mobile platform is expected to run on some of the upcoming netbooks, as the market for these systems continues to expand. Almost every major system vendor has expressed its intention to develop a computer system that can run on Android, consequently providing the end-users with a choice for a different netbook system, compared to the current offering. Among names such as HP, ASUS and Acer, Averatec could also unleash a new netbook that will be running on Android, later this year.

According to a recent interview with Cnet's Crave, Averatec CEO, Tae-Hyun “Tiger” Cho said that the company was preparing the release of another netbook model. According to him, the upcoming netbook system has been designed by the company “from scratch” and could be launched as early as August or later in September. Despite no word on the specific hardware and various features of the upcoming system, the netbook is said to be different from most of its competitors currently available on the market.

However, the company's CEO slipped a teaser, saying that “the OS is going to be a surprise.” He continued by saying that the OS would be “a merger of a cell phone and PC technology,” which could indicate that the company is actually planning to roll out a netbook that will be running on the mobile-focused Android platform. Unfortunately, that is yet to be confirmed when the netbook will be available later this year.

Averatec isn't the only system vendor that has made its debut in the netbook market, and which is said, or has been confirmed to be planning the launch of an Android-based netbook. As a matter of fact, the first Android-based netbook portable computer system has already been announced by Chinese PC maker Skytone. However, more Android-based systems are expected in the near future, coming from major PC vendors such as HP and ASUS, which are currently testing the OS.
