“Avengers: Age of Ultron” is getting slightly less positive reviews that its predecessor, “Marvel’s The Avengers,” which came out in 2012, but it’s poised to leave this one in the dust. With it, it will also leave every other Marvel film and probably Universal Pictures’ “Furious 7.”

In other words, “Ultron” is poised for a massive debut, one that will set a new record for Thursday night gross. By the time it finishes its run in theaters, it will probably have made all the money in world.

That is obviously an exaggeration, but THR believes, based on feedback from tracking services in terms of ticket pre-sales, that it will stands good chances of becoming the third highest-grossing movie of all times, after “Avatar” and “Titanic.”

The position is now occupied by “Marvel’s The Avengers.”

“Ultron” has already opened in select theaters in international markets, and has made over $200 million (€179.3 million) already. Estimates indicate that it will probably top that in its opening weekend in US theaters.

“Numerous theater circuits, including giant AMC Entertainment, are reporting sold-out shows in scores of locations,” THR says, adding that “presales for Age of Ultron are equal to presales for all previous Marvel films combined, while MovieTickets.com reports that advance sales are nearly four times greater than The Avengers.”

“Ultron” brings back the cast from the first “Avengers” movie, with new additions in Elizabeth Olsen and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. A full “Avengers: Age of Ultron” review is also available.
