Avast Antivirus, one of the most popular antivirus names on the market, which also comes in a freeware version, just got updated, the new release including multiple
fixes meant to correct glitches found in the previous edition. The 4.8.1195, available in both Home and Professional flavors, comes with a pretty long changelog but here are some of the most important updates included in this release:

■ solved incompatibility of the avast self protection module and the System Restore feature (Windows XP/Vista);
■ fixed slow resuming from hibernation (on certain systems);
■ fixed deleting of infected files in some nested archives;
■ boot-time scanner now correctly displays warning messages about corrupted archives;
■ improved scanning speed in the Simple user interface;
■ start of the "avast! Mail Scanner" service should now be fast again;
■ the "Disable startup rootkit scan" option on the Troubleshooting page now effective;
■ fixed a problem with avast being installed in a directory with name containing non-Latin characters.

The full changelog can be found right here on Softpedia. Obviously, our Windows section also provides you with the download links for both Home and Professional version so, if you haven't updated your antivirus yet, you should do it as soon as possible.

Avast Antivirus is quite a popular security solution nowadays, especially due to the freeware license included in the package. However, the Professional version, said to provide even more advanced security measures for paying users, is also a popular name on the market. For instance, Avast Home Edition recorded no less than 225,854 hits on Softpedia while the Professional version brought us 110,726 downloads.

The last major release of Avast Antivirus took place on March 29, 2008 when ALWIL Software, the parent company, introduced anti-spyware detection and anti-rootkit abilities that provide even better security than the previous Avast Antivirus releases.
