Avast 2014 R2 Beta 1 Integrates GrimeFighter
It improves firewall and WebShield, adds best price aggregator
Avast Software rolled out a fresh update (build 9.0.2009) for their consumer products, introducing new tools and improving the existing technology. The new release is currently in beta stage of development and features GrimeFighter, a tool from the recently acquired Jumpshot that is designed to boost the performance of the PC by scanning for junk files and eliminating them.
The company warns that, at the moment, GrimeFighter is not completely integrated in the suite and problems will occur when run on Windows 8 and 8.1 as well as on encrypted disks and RAID setups.
The browser plugins now include SavePrice, a component similar to Avira’s Savings Advisor; its purpose is to find better prices during online shopping sessions, and it currently works with Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Safari, with IE support to be added soon.
WebShield component should act more efficiently at detecting threats thanks to the completely re-written Stream Filtering function.
To all these, the developer added an improved firewall that should do away with the Java-related issues encountered by users; enhancements touch on stability and compatibility with other network applications.
The current release (Avast 2014 R2 Beta 1) generates a set of glitches already known to the developer. Among them is occasional failure of Rescue Disk component, compatibility problems of IE plugin with Internet Explorer 11, and localization issues.
Since this is a beta release, the above-mentioned glitches are not the only ones affecting Avast bundle and users report new ones every day.
