Avalanche Drums

- A tide of drum samples hitting the markets

By: Florin Tibu, Editor, Software Reviews

I really don't know what has happened but the last few weeks have brought a real avalanche of drum-related software, namely a "ton and a half" drum samples. From break beats to the hardest rock, almost everything you might need when it comes to computer drums is already
out there. Three of the world's main software producers have released three packs containing a wide diversity of drum samples just waiting to get in your mixes.

Propellerhead teams up with Salazar Brothers and have issued the Reason ReFill Reggaeton pack, a pile of roughly half a GB with loops, samples, REX files, drums FX, vinyl FX, stabs and even vocals. All for about 75 dollars in the downloadable version, demoed on the Propellerhead website and even having a downloadable demo.

Next in line is Smart Loops with the three straightforward new libraries in the SL MultiTrack Series. The first module, the 6/8 Slow-Medium Thick Brushes 1 will enrich and inspire your music creativity in what jazz, rock, blues and country are concerned. Second comes the Medium Straight Rock 2A for rock, pop, funk and country-rock creation while the third module, 2B bring about the same target-oriented halftime grooves. All in stereo mixes, ready to go.

Last but by far not least, a Sean Forsythe collection of 62 16-bit loops made especially for the electro-industrial sphere ranging from the rather sleazy 70 BPM to a faster, more alert 179 BPM, "from Trip Hop to Industrial, and down quite a few interesting, pulse pounding, chest thumping, and just chilling out, percussive detours along the way," as the Perimeter Sound website describes. 117 MB of work-ready files any DJ would like to have.

Check the producers' websites and see for yourselves what it’s all about.
